ACC Sensitive Claims

Since 2014 SVS Living Safe has been a Supplier of ACC Sensitive Claims services. We have a number of providers who cover Nelson and Tasman. For information about the ACC Sensitive Claims system and to access a Sensitive Claims counsellor please phone us and ask to speak to our service coordinator who can talk you through the process.

I feel 100% safe and I am confident about what to do if this changed. Thank you so much. I really feel there has been a change in both of us. It has made a total difference.

I am an ACC Sensitive Claims Counsellor and a member of New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC). I have specialised in working with trauma in different forms for the past 12 years. I work with the impacts of sexual assault and rape and also other trauma resulting from relationships which have been physically and emotionally abusive. Many of my clients come to counselling to 'find themselves' and know that in some way their experiences have affected all parts of their lives and especially close relationships. I work with my clients to find their strengths and grow these to practice new ways of being in the world. I am also aware that building trust between us is the most important first step and you must find the right counsellor for you.

My name is Ali Comins and my role as a social worker within SVS, is to support clients with Sensitive Claims. My focus is to manage and/or remove any social barriers that hinder clients’ ability to engage in recovery. Examples are:

  • Linking clients to other services or supports in the community, including transitioning clients to other supports when they are no longer eligible for ISSC.
  • Assist them with government agencies such as WINZ, Health Organisations, Housing New Zealand, Oranga Tamariki or Budget Advice.

My training was initially as a High School Teacher in the UK and as my six children were leaving home I retrained as a Social Worker in New Zealand. I love my work and find it so rewarding when I can encourage these brave clients to lighten their load. You can imagine how touched I felt when I received the following message from a client. “Thank-you kindly for all that you are, do and be for those of us that treasure your heartfelt generous support and confident friendship in our communities. Looking forward to the lighter moments with you."
