The agency first began in the 1980s when a group of men came together to support the work of Refuge and Rape Crisis in Nelson through fund raising and other support they could offer. This gradually evolved into providing services for men, initially as a support group and then providing educational programmes for men who were perpetrators of family violence.
Originally known as Men for Non Violence (Nelson) Inc the service has undergone several name changes. In July 2013 the service renamed itself SVS- Living Safe to reflect delivery of services across the broader Tasman region.
We are an Incorporated Society registered with the Charities Commission (CC24151).
SVS-LS is affiliated to the National Network of Stopping Violence Services, Te Kupenga Whakaoti Mahi Patunga- www.nnsvs.org.nz
